Bill Mitchener Slideshow

Alcast Company is sad to announce that William A. Mitchener (Bill) has passed away on January 29, 2019 at the age of 86. Bill Mitchener founded Alcast Company in Peoria, IL in 1970. After graduating from Purdue University and working as an engineering at Caterpillar for ten years, Bill was a General Manager at National Aluminum Manufacturing Company in Peoria.

Alcast Company began operations out of a small leased building and the main product was a sandwich cooker. Bill spent his time designing and manufacturing foundry machines, ultimately developing the Alcast proprietary Electro-Magnetic, Bottom-fill process. Bill’s ingenuity and ability to solve problems resulted in substantial growth for Alcast, which now operates out of 220,000 sq. ft. of manufacturing space, services a highly diverse customer base, and employs over 200 workers.

Bill loved pleasure sailing and competitive sailing, winning most of his races. Bill named his pleasure sailing boat “Enjoy” - - and he wanted everyone to embody that thought in their lives.

In 1995, Bill began to transfer ownership of Alcast to the employees that helped build the business via an ESOP. Alcast employees, through the ESOP, now own nearly 80% of the business. Bill’s kindness and generosity will certainly be missed!
